X-Pro1 - exposure compensation not working

With snow on the ground I thought I had better try some compensation - one or two stops +. However, there appeared to be no difference in the image as a result: I then noticed that with the dial set to +2, the screen scale was showing -2. Changing the dial setting caused no change to the screen scale, unless the dial was rapidly moved to and fro, when the indicator on the scale 'flickered' up and down slightly..

I've looked in both the Owner's Manual and Pfirstinger, but can nothing...
