X-Pro1 and 14mm / distance scale

I dusted off my X-Pro1 recently to take to South Africa as a backup camera. I bought the 14mm lens to go along with my 35mm and 60mm lenses.

I am now in South Africa and enjoying using the X-Pro1 again but have noticed an anomaly with distance scale using the 14mm lens. Whenever I focus on anything in the distance the distance scale (the red line) shows no more than 10 metres. This includes unobstructed panoramic views.
