X-Pro2 - Use of AE-L and photometry in 'S' mode

On my 'new' X-Pro2, I was having a hard job figuring out how to engage the AE-L (or / AF-L for that matter) or photometry buttons while in the 'S' shooting mode. When I rotate the dial to 'M', I get into manual focus. All the buttons then work.

Is there a setting to allow at least AE-L and photometry buttons to be usable in 'S' mode also. Seems quite (a lot) nonsensical to disable those buttons?
