X-Pro 2 Missing Focus

I've been having a few struggles with the AF on the XP2. The camera seems to want to focus on the background even with focus confirmation on subject. This happens with 18mm f2 and 35mm f2. I've never experienced this level of focus misses on Xt-1. I will half-press shutter to focus, see the green focus confirmation box, (I can see that it's not in focus), I try to re-press the shutter to focus again, and the camera won't get off the background.
