When does camera chose Mechanical or Electronic shutter?

I can set my X-Pro2 shutter type to mechanical or electronic, which I understand. There's also an option
"MS MECHANICAL + ES ELECTRONIC", the manual says, "the camera chooses the shutter type according to shooting conditions".

What are the shooting conditions where either mechanical or electronic will be selected? Is this an option anyone uses and why do so?
